Badia Prataglia: history, nature, and tradition

The history of Badia Prataglia is closely tied to the forest that surrounds it. Since the Middle Ages, the monks—first from Prataglia, then Camaldolese—have developed a deep and harmonious relationship with the woods, profoundly shaping the development of the area.

For centuries, the local economy has been rooted in woodworking, making Badia the heart of Casentino’s artisanal tradition.

Since the late 19th century, a vibrant tourism industry has grown around this age-old bond with the Casentino Forests, now enhanced by the presence of the National Park.

Badia Prataglia stands out as one of the most important and well-equipped tourist destinations in the Casentino area. Its strategic location within the Park, combined with the charm of the landscape and the quality of services, has made it the venue for major national and international events—such as the Trail World Championship, held on June 10, 2017.
